New York — During the High-Level Week of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, Marta Santos Pais, participated in a series of high-level meetings and side events focused on accelerating progress to end violence against children.

The SRSG met with government representatives and senior UN officials to advance the global agenda on child protection, with a particular focus on ensuring that violence against children features prominently in the post-2015 development framework.

"Ending violence against children is not only a moral imperative — it is a precondition for sustainable development. No development agenda can be truly transformative if it leaves behind the world's most vulnerable children," said SRSG-VAC Marta Santos Pais.

The SRSG also highlighted the recent launch of her report "Toward a World Free from Violence: Global Survey on Violence against Children," which maps progress and remaining challenges in implementation of the recommendations of the 2006 UN Study on Violence against Children.

The SRSG called on world leaders to make concrete commitments to strengthen child protection systems, allocate adequate resources for violence prevention, and ensure accountability for the rights of every child.
