The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children (SRSG-VAC) convened a high-level meeting to advance the global agenda on ending violence against children, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly's review of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.
SRSG-VAC Marta Santos Pais opened the meeting by underscoring the transformative potential of SDG target 16.2 — to end all forms of violence against, exploitation of, and abuse and torture of children — and the need for concrete national action plans to translate political commitments into results for children.
"We have the frameworks, we have the knowledge, and we have the political commitment. What we need now is sustained investment, rigorous implementation, and accountability," said SRSG-VAC Santos Pais.
The meeting brought together Member States, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and child rights advocates to share good practices and identify remaining gaps in child protection systems worldwide. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating progress towards a world free from violence for all children by 2030.
